Galloping Horse

After posting my Apollo kinetic sculpture, I received a few inquiries about the updated horse design, so I decided to recreate one of them as a standalone model. It can be made to run by turning a crank on its side, which you can see demonstrated in this video.

I put together building instructions for it, which you can find below, and you can also purchase a kit with all the pieces from MOCHUB.

The model can be easily motorized by adding a motor and a handful of parts. The instructions for the motor pack illustrate using a Power Functions M-motor, but pretty much any modern motor can be connected in the same way.

Connecting the motor pack should be pretty straightforward, but here’s a video demonstrating how to do it. It also shows the horse in action.

  1. Hi Jason,

I wanted to surprise my wife with the galloping horse but I noticed that the parts list is not complete.
One part I can’t find the part number.
On the parts list on page 103 of the building instructions, row 4, part 3, that part I still need, the rest I have ordered or I have it in stock.

    Thanks for your reply

    • Page 103? There are only 82 pages in the instructions. Regardless, the part numbers are all in the HTML part list file, which you can find in the blog post just under the PDF instruction link.

  2. I love this one! Reminds of the mechanical horse from the intro of the Westworld series.. I’m going try to build this one first, so currently on the lookout for missing parts 🙂

  3. awesome! thanks for sharing, jason 🙂 do u mind uploading instructions for apollo and chariot (and how to connect it to the 2 horses too)? thank u so much!! i love all your models, i think lego models that can move and replicate real life motions are the coolest things ever, and i’m a huge fan of greek mythology too. i’ve built your swimming shark action stand and sisyphus (pushing his boulder for eternity!), and i really hope to be able to build apollo with his chariot too. i hope u’ll come up with more greek mythology related builds soon. cheers!
